Some good news

Stealing the title from Pandora blog, but adding some real good news:

You can use OpenPandora even outside US. Thanks for the blog commenters for finding the solution.
You have to install Hotspot Shield and that all enter under proxy settings host 127.0.0.1 and port 895.

And back to Pandora with some new features:
  • Volume normalization (finally!)
  • Tune shared station for your taste using thumbs up and down
  • Now you can move station even from shared station and QuickMix
  • Backstage is available back for all users, even those outside US.
  • and more
Enjoy your music.

Try alpha beta 3 [ad]

Hotspot Shield seems to work, yet OpenPandora won't start.

An error message keeps popping up: 'an error has occurred in the srcipt on this page'

Any ideas, how could it be solved?

Many thanks

some virus scanners are reporting hotspot shield as malware. maybe, this software ist not the best alternative.

for me tor is working perfectly but needs some tweaking to work with openpandora.

another thing is that the proxy settings in openenpandora doesn't work for me. i had to edit the setting directly in internet explorer.

Can you post what tweaks have you made for Tor to work with OP?

tor tweakings

add this to your torrc file to force us american exit nodes:

------
StrictExitNodes 1
exitnodes desync,whistlersmother,lefkada,bettyboop,croeso,TorLuwakOrg,nixnix,inap1,redpineapple,cronic,sasquatch,slowturtle2
------

and finally make a .pac file for automatic proxy configuration of your webbrowser to send data only for www.pandora.com to tor and keep audiostreaming traffic untouched

add these lines and use it in your favorite browser:

------
function FindProxyForURL(url, host)
{
if (shExpMatch(host, "www.pandora.com")) return "PROXY 127.0.0.1:8118";
// All other requests don't pass proxy
return "DIRECT";
}
------

Couldn't get anything from Hotspot Shield. Don't even understand if you are supposed to have a hotspot in the vicinity, because I am in the boondocks...

I tries the Tor and things and it works, albeit slowly. Thanks God, the browser (Firefox) has a button to disable the thing when you want to do some serious work.

the .pac file doesnt work.
"It appears you have configured your web browser to use Tor as an HTTP proxy. This is not correct: Tor is a SOCKS proxy, not an HTTP proxy. Please configure your client accordingly."

is the message I get.

solution?

use

--

function FindProxyForURL(url, host)
{
if (shExpMatch(host, "www.pandora.com")) return "SOCKS 127.0.0.1:8118";
// All other requests don't pass proxy
return "DIRECT";
}

---

and it works.

Now OpenPandora only lacks .pac support... ;)

How do I make a pac file?

create new text document and rename the extension from txt to pac.

you can also download it from here: http://openpandora.googlepages.com/tor.pac

HotSpot Shild is NOT Malware, however, because of it's nature, it is alerted (and often blocked, based on your firewall settings) by your anti-virus or firewall software. Simply go into your anti-virus software and unblock the program. I won't go into too much detail because every anti-virus is different, however, if need-be, I'm sure you can find an online help section through the company which makes your software.

Keep in mind HotSpot Shield is much DIFFERENT from an anti-virus software. It does not protect from viruses, instead it encrypts data sent over the internet-downloads,web sites viewed, etc.

XP SP3, behind a firewall, but am able to run Pandora from IE7. I keep getting the "Please wait, Pandora is loading..." window. I've ran Pandora in IE7 and then OpenPandora will update the title-bar with the current song and as songs transition I will get toolbar pop-ups, but the app window will not update? Any ideas?
