Sounds like an excellent update! Thanks for the great work, as always.

My request is, if a song plays that is "thumbed up" or is in your bookmarked songs, have a couple variations of the system tray icon to show it. And, when you thumb up a song that has never been thumbed up, maybe change the systray icon to have a little thumbs up to let the user know that it "took." -- I often find that, after I thumb up, I open the player just to make sure. This would save that step :)

- Ctrl+Win+Enter: Display again song notification window

This function doesnt work AT ALL in beta release: 0.6.8.4

eitan said...

The function works only for the new notification window, not the tray balloon.
Do you have in settings, General tab selected 'Popup Notification Window', but not selected 'Show Classic Balloon'?
Do you see the new notification window for each song?

If you have this feature working or not, please state it here.

Can you please add a playback time, so I know how long a song has been playing, please ?

Note that it too will need to pause when the song's been paused.

eitan said...

How do you want to use the playback time?

Pausing !? ... LOL

During the last few days I have discovered that posting tracks to Last.fm is going wrong is some situations. As you requested a couple of months ago, I have run DebugView to look for any problems or messages to I could post them here.

When everything is okay, I see the following message appearing in the log:

AudioscrobblerPlugin.Submitted: OK

But when things are going wrong, I see the text "BADAUTH" appear instead of "OK". When this happens, OpenPandora does not retry to post the track to Last.fm, or keep a log of the tracks to post them later when the problem is solved.

The funny thing is that when I restart OpenPandora, everything is fine again and posting to Last.fm works without any problems for some time. Until the "BADAUTH" message appears again and I have to restart OpenPandora again...

I hope this problem description is thorough enough for you guys to solve this problem (one of) the following beta releases. I am a really big fan of OpenPandora and use it quite often, especially in combination with Last.fm.

Kind regards,
Theo

Just a hint (since it took me a while to find it)...

For those having trouble getting this working, make sure Settings, Control, Global Shortcuts is enabled.

Today I'm having problems again with submitting to Last.fm. Here is the log from DebugView:

[5136] Memory Purge

Two suggestions:
1) Maybe submitting will be more successful if the interval between the retries is longer, for example 20 seconds. I see the same plugin error when submitting tracks with QCD player once in a while, but after a couple of minutes the submit is retried and 9 out of 10 times the submit will succeed in the end.
2) It's a pity that submitting after 5 unsuccesfull retries will end the process and is followed by a memory purge. The track count will be lost for ever because the track is not logged and kept for later retries... :(

I hope this helps making the product even better!

Cheers!

Theo

Theo: There is lack of cache for Last.fm retries and it stops after 5 times. The memory purge does nothing for submitions.
There is planned feature for aggregation of failed submitions for later retries, till success, and stopping after 5 times

eitan: Thank you for your explanation. I am a very big fan of OpenPandora, so I will keep on using it even with the Last.fm problems I am experiencing. I really hope you will be able to fix them in the future sometime.

Cheers!

Can we get ability to change global shortcuts? My laptop doesn't have a "Win" key.

eitan said...

This is planned.
What combination you thought of?

Thanks for sharing your experience

Relatively minor bug; it must be getting solid. :)

When I first start OP, if I change stations right away, the notification popup for the song on the new station is ignored if currently activating/displaying the notification for the song on the original station. Because of this, Ctrl+Win+Enter does not display the correct notification for the currently playing song. It display the notification for the first song that was started instead. Once the next song starts normally (not immediately after a change), notification is fine again. I have not been able to trigger it yet on subsequent changes. I suspect notification receipt during a narrow time window (popup activating?) causes it, but I haven't had a chance to check the code yet.

Is there a roadmap of what features are yet to be added to make up a 1.0 version (and beyond if available)?

eitan said...

It takes a moment to fetch the new song additional data. Some times that moment can take a bit longer.

For roadmap check this post http://openpandora.blogspot.com/2007/01/version-067-is-out.html

it would be really cool if this could be exposed as a Vista Sidebar Gadget.

Thanks, Eric.

I left it opened for 3 days on Vista and reached 200Mb occupied ram :)

I have installed 0.6.8.4 because version 0.6.7 crashes on load but I am having problems with this version as well.
It takes forever to load and then an error occurs saying:
An error has occurred in the script on this page
Line 11
Char 3
Error 'Pandora' is undefined
Code 0
URL: http://openpandora.googlepages.com/
pandoraevents6.htm

I am running this through a proxy on a Win2K box with IE6 and I know I have set that up properly since I have Winamp, foxyproxy and others using the same proxy.

Anyone else getting this error? or know how to fix it.

Thanks

an update on my problem.
If I set my Internet Options->Lan Settings to use my proxy everything loads properly and I can get pandora to stream.
I am not sure but shouldn't the proxy settings in OpenPandora be the ones used not the ones in IE.
Maybe this is a bug. I am not sure.

Thanks for the help.

I have been Pandora user from the beginning and I love it. Openpandora made my dreams come true one day. And even now, after upgradeing to Windows Vista, it works absolutely perfect. And the versions keep getting better and better! Thank You!

I love pandora, but everytime I try and run OpenPandora I get this runtime error at the "Please wait, Pandora is loading" screen:

A Runtime error has occured.
Do you wish to debug?

Line: 6
Error: Object Expected

[Yes] - [No]

If I hit Yes twice, the box goes away but OpenPandora never loads. If I hit no, it does the same thing.

Any help?

I open OpenPandora but I never get past the "Please wait, pandora is loading . ." screen.

This is odd because on the status bar it can even tell me what is playing if I then load pandora in my browser. It will even follow along and tell me that a song is paused if I pause it in my browser, but for the life of my, I simply can't get OpenPandora itself to load the Pandora screen.

I'm using a proxy (I'm outside the US)called secure-tunnel. I set the proxy in OpenPandora but it still doesn't work.

Even stranger, when I used Openpandora in the US without a proxy, it worked fine AND worked fine for a few weeks after I left the US and had to use a proxy again but then stopped working again, just like randomly one day. And this is all on one computer.

My proxy works totally fine for every other program.

What gives.
